Working both collaboratively and independently painters Sara Aziz and Ilker Cinarel will be exploring ideas of public and private activity, abstraction and figuration, masculine and feminine archetypes and of stepping into the unknown. Throughout the week the two painters will work in shifts independently (Ilker during the day and Sara during the evening) on two canvases, each responding to what the other has painted. Ilker Cinarel is predominantly a figurative painter and Sara Aziz abstract. This is the first in what is intended to be an ongoing collaborative project between the two artists, who will communicate only through the paintings throughout the weeklong exhibition. The activity of both painters will be relayed live via video link to the Engine Room of the Exchange Gallery.
